Lung Shield

Cellular Therapy Coverage for Post Covid-19 Lung Infection

Lung Shield ‘Program’ provides clients with compassionate use of cellular therapy coverage for post COVID-19 Lung Infection Recovery.

In support of the national vaccination program, all clients of Lung Shield will also be provided a complimentary post COVID-19 vaccine complication cover and accidental death benefits.

Cellular therapy is clinically proven to be effective in the field of regenerative medicine and holds promising potential in treating lung damage inflicted by Covid-19.

Lung Shield only uses stem cells produced under current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).

What is Cellular Therapy?

Cellular therapy have the ability to differentiate, repair, restore, replace and regenerate cells. It can provide new cells as the body grows and replace cells that are damaged or lost. Hence, widely known as regenerative medicine.

Cellular Therapy is less immunogenic.  It lowers the risks of rejection by the individual’s immune system and complications when transplanted.

Cellular Therapy possesses a unique homing ability. Once transplanted, the  cells are naturally directed to the damaged tissues which are in need of repair and replacement.

Categories of Infection

CATEGORY1

Asymptomatic (does not require any treatment).Only RT-PCR is positive

CATEGORY2

Symptomatic, no pneumonia. Upper respiratory tract (URT) symptoms (e.g. pharyngeal congestion, sore throat, cough or fever) for a period less than 7 days

CATEGORY3

Symptomatic, with pneumonia. URTI symptoms with others like vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, myalgia, lost of smell/taste. Signs of increase work of breathing and increase respiratory rate, but no hypoxemia

CATEGORY4

Symptomatic, pneumonia requiring oxygen supplementation. Tachyphonea* with hypoxemia(Sp02 94% on room air)

  • CNS effect: Lethargy, decreased level of consciousness, seizure
  • GI effects: Dehydration, difficulty feeding, raised liver enzymes
  • Myocardial effect: Raised Creatinine Kinase, Troponin

CARTEGORY5

Critically ill with multiple organ involvement.

  • Respiratory failure requiring mechanical ventilation(acute respiratory distress syndrome – ARDS)
  • Presistent hypoxemia
  • Septic shock
  • Organ failure

Post Covid-19 Lung Conditions

Generally, patients recover within weeks from Covid-19 infection but some unfortunately experience “Post Covid-19 Lung Infection’, also known as “Long Covid” especially from the assault of the new variants and cytokines storm.

Some may even experience conditions consisting of multiorgan effects that lasts for months after infection.

How It Works:

Repair & regenerate damaged cells

Anti-inflammatory Actions

Reduces Oxidative Stress

Tissue Repair/ Renovation

Antimicrobial Action

Cellular therapy possesses immunomodulatory properties. They have been shown to reduce inflammatory markers in several studies.

Recent Clinical Trials show that cellular therapy reduces the risk of complications and death in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients. They help to improve the microenvironment, promote neovascularisation, inhibit pulmonary fibrosis and enhance tissue repair capabilities.

Generally all stem cell products require FDA approval. Currently, the only stem cell products that are FDA-approved for use in the United States consist of blood forming stem cells also known as (hematopoietic progenitor cells) that are derived from the umbilical cord blood. These products are approved for use in patients with disorders that affect the production of blood.

In April 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized a clinical trial exploratory efficacy study that used umbilical cord-derived MSCs for prevention of the life-threatening lung inflammation in COVID-19 patients.

Stem cells should only be used in FDA-approved clinical trials, expanded access program, or an Emergency Investigation New Drug application and for compassionate use.
